Pangbourne win by 8 wickets - View full scorecard

First Win!

A logistical nightmare that turned out well in the end for Pangbourne. Some confusion with the college meant that the game was played on Bowden. Pangbourne welcomed three debutants, Bryan and Aiden Greenaway and Tom Lightfoot.

Despite the heat, Bowden had been covered and was still very wet from the rain during the week. The pitch resembled a ploughed, muddy field rather than a proper cricket pitch. Dan won the toss and elected to bowl, in what he was hoping were going to be some testing batting conditions. This proved to the be the case, with Sonning really struggling with the extremely slow nature of the pitch. Wickets fell at regular intervals as the Sonning batsman couldn't get to grips with ball coming so slowly off the surface. The slower ball bouncer proved to be the ball of the day. Pretty much all of the bowlers chipped in with wickets, but special mention must go to Alex who only bowled 4 balls, but took two wickets for no runs. Needless to say, Sonning ended up on a hard fought 82 runs.

When it came time for Pangbourne to bat the pitch had dried a little, but the Sonning bowlers didn't quite make the same use of the facilities as Pangbourne. Connor, looking his most focused all season, was soon into his stride and hit a blistering 50 before being sharply caught. Pangbourne got over the line with some lusty blows from Shantha, with plenty of overs to spare and 8 wickets in hand.

A very strong performance from Pangbourne, but the toss seemed crucial and Sonning were unlucky to be on the recieving end.

Onwards to the local derby against Whitchurch on Sunday!
